Create a four beat motif that uses both rhythm and pitches. Develop the motif using the following processes: transposition (moving the motif to different starting pitches), inversion (taking pitches down instead of up and vice versa), retrograde (backwards), augmentation (proportionally elongating the note values), diminution (proportionally shortening the note values), and fragmentation (using portions of the motifs). Compose 12-measures for a single line instrument using your motif, transpositions, inversion, retrograde, augmentation, diminution, and fragmentation.
Join our Bradley Composition community in Final Bar Line Frenzy this summer. Our goal is to collectively reach 100 final bar lines (completed pieces) this summer! Once you complete a composition, comment on this post. Tell us the title, instrumentation, and provide a link to the piece if possible. Also include the number out of 100 in your comment to help us track our progress. For example, the first person to comment on the post would add 1/100, the second person would add 2/100, etc. What constitutes a completed piece for Final Bar Line Frenzy? Good work, Darial. I like the truncated, repeated portion of the motif near the end of your piece.

ReplyDeleteThe first four measures create a very nice phrase, and it works very well beginning that second phrase on the inversion.
