Music Monday - Summer 2023

One of our jobs as composers is marketing our works and preparing them to a high level of quality. This may look different for each composer – perhaps it is a video on Youtube of a recent piece being performed, a video with a rolling score and audio, an audio link on Soundcloud or Spotify, or a video of you performing your composition on TikTok.

Throughout the summer, aim to publicize one of your compositions every Monday through social media and tag your post as #MusicMonday and tag Bradley University Music (BradleyUMusic on instagram) in it. Also, share the media link as a comment to this post.

Final Bar Line Frenzy - Summer 2023

Join our Bradley Composition community in Final Bar Line Frenzy this summer. Our goal is to collectively reach 100 final bar lines (completed pieces) this summer! Once you complete a composition,  comment on this post. Tell us the title, instrumentation, and provide a link to the piece if possible. Also include the number out of 100 in your comment to help us track our progress. For example, the first person to comment on the post would add 1/100, the second person would add 2/100, etc.  What constitutes a completed piece for Final Bar Line Frenzy? It can be an original composition, an arrangement, a transcription, a fixed media piece, a project created in a DAW, a multimedia project, a multi movement piece, or a collection of short pieces. Use your discretion, but think of this as a completed piece that is of a quality that you would be happy to present in composition lessons, is ready for performance, and would be ready to send off to a publisher or feature on au...

9/1/21 - Timbre

Compose an 8-measure duet for two of the same instruments (two trumpets for example). Focus on creating a moment where there are two distinct, contrasting parts using range, dynamics, and articulations to emphasize the difference and a moment where the two instruments blend into one another.

8/31/21 - Melody

Compose a singable 12-measure folk song melody on the syllable “la”. Aim to incorporate elements that make a good folk melody including limited range, singable tempo and rhythms, limited pitches, consonant intervals, and repetition. For an added challenge, create lyrics for your melody.
